We dive deep to achieve the maximum impact for each unique project.
We have a technically oriented team which is focused on integrated coordination and details from the design phase through construction. Building sustainability has always been a top priority which we have been able to achieve to different degrees on every project. Suulin is PHIUS (Passive House Institute US) and PHI (Passive House Institute) accredited, and is in the process of completing the Living Building Challenge certification.
We take on challenging adaptive reuse projects - reviving old buildings has the greatest impact on reducing the embodied carbon footprint of construction than any other measure. Retaining existing structural elements can use up to 70% less carbon compared to a new-build project.
We design and often physically plant the gardens or landscapes on every project. We believe that we must give new life to as much open land as possible because it enhances our everyday lives and regenerates the earth, which gives it more capacity to sequester carbon. We use every opportunity to strengthen the user’s relationship to nature by deepening connections to the exterior landscape and integrating interior planting as part of our formal language.
We have come to the critical tipping points of many of nature’s systems – the ecosystems that make up our life support. The passive and active solutions we develop maximize daylight, control solar gain and utilize high performance envelope design and energy-efficient building systems. We believe that in order to protect the future of our shared commons we must take every step towards carbon neutral practices.
We seek partners in our work to join us in the mandate of the 2030 Challenge of building carbon neutral buildings, and going beyond that, by building net positive buildings It is the only way that we can bring our home back into balance.
