38 walmer road

The Walmer Road Baptist Church was built in 1889 and has served as a community hub ever since. The church’s congregation has shrunk in recent years and Suulin is working with TAS to design an extensive addition and revitalization for the site.

The existing sanctuary building will be repurposed with a new commercial community hub and the congregation will remain on the site. There is also a large residential component to this project. The development aims to maintain a respectful and complementary relationship with the existing building and surrounding neighbourhood, which includes both mid-century apartment towers and detached single family homes.

Extensive and early collaboration with the congregation and local communities will ensure successful engagement with all parties. Equally important are the positive spaces formed around the building which will enhance the community's experience and pedestrian connectivity in the Annex.
